Community Diagnostic Imaging

Provider: STL Diagnostic Imaging, providing all general radiology exams and all general and vascular ultrasound exams (see attached requisition).

Hours: 8-5 pm weekdays

  • Same/next day service; depending on volumes, staffing, distance to travel. Technologists/sonographers start as early as 6am, with the majority of staff off the road by 4pm.
  • Extended service provision to weekends and adaptation of shifts/hours of operations and coverage may be considered as needs warrant.
  • All studies are uploaded to STL PACS through secure VPN and are read by STL radiologist same/next day.
  • All significantly concerning images are flagged for urgent read same day, by technologist/sonographer.
  • Studies are available on Clinical Connect and ConnectingOntario, depending on viewing permission.
  • All studies/reports are sent to SWODIN and participants with OntarioMD.
  • Add “LTC-CARES ED Diversion” to requisition.

**STL Diagnostic Imaging staff follow all appropriate IPAC and regulatory standards to prevent and mitigate risk of transmission.  This includes universal mask and face shield for every home and every resident examination. Every effort is made by staff to schedule COVID19 outbreak homes at the end of their shift.

HHS Diagnostic Imaging

Urgent/Emergent Requests: If the patient requires an ultrasound or CT recommend transfer to ED.

Semi-urgent Requests during Business Hours: All referrals to come through the LTC-CARES ED physician.  Label requisition as “SEMI-URGENT:  LTC-CARES ED Diversion” and fax to the McMaster site.

After hours semi-urgent requests:  All referrals to come through the LTC-CARES ED physician, cases to be scanned at the MUMC site if they do not require an ED visit.  Physicians should call the Adult MUMC radiologist on call 8:00-16:00 Sat/Sun or on-call radiology resident weekday evenings after 18:00 or after 16:00 Sat/Sun (as per usual process).  Scanning during regular hours/daytime preferred.

Routine LTC Requests: Fax requisition to appropriate Modality (see requisition attached for fax numbers).

LTC consideration/needs:

  • Patient must be accompanied by LTC staff as DI doesn’t have extra staff to supervise.
  • Transportation to be arranged by LTC to transfer to DI from LTC, wait for imaging and return to LTC, as there will not be space to wait in DI.  Verbal report by daytime radiologist or on-call radiology resident to ordering LTC-CARES ED physician prior to return transportation.

For semi-urgent or after hours requests:  LTC physicians should call the radiologist on call (as per usual process), or should go through ED.
